Under-ride Tractor Trailer Accident |
This type of an accident occurs when the front of a small passenger car contacts the rear or side of a truck trailer. While the small passenger car is less than 30 inches above the ground the truck trailer is usually more than 45 inches off the ground, allowing the passenger vehicle to go under or under ride the trailer. When this occurs, it usually causes serious injuries to the occupants of the passenger vehicle. New standards require tractor-trailers designed after 1993 to be marked with reflective tape on both the rear and sides. Tractor-trailers designed after 1996 must have a rear bumper equipped at 22 inches above the ground. There are still thousands of tractor-trailers on the road that violate these safety standards.
