Excessive Points on Driving Record |
|
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) maintains a record of all traffic convictions based on a "Negligent Driver Points" system. When a certain amount of points become cumulated on your record, your driving privileges can be suspended or revoked. For most California drivers, age 18 and older, DMV will institute an action against the driver's license when one accumulates the following point totals: 4 points in 12 months, 6 points in 24 months, and 8 points in 36 months. On the other hand, those under 18 are also subject to a different Negligent Operator Points System that starts when a person gets 2 points in 12 months.
The DMV point system consists of many incidents that may result point deduction against your driving record. Some examples of point deductions include, an accident in which you are at fault, speeding and a minor moving violation. Examples of two point deduction include, Reckless driving, Driving on a suspended or revoked license, Hit-and-run accident, Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (DUI).
